Minutes of February Meeting

14 February 2005 7:45 PM
We had an informal meeting at the home of Dana Ring.  We discussed the upcoming lecture by Dan Garrett.
President’s report:  Dan Sclare attended SAM17’s after-holiday bash on Jan. 30, and the Magic Barn lecture by Duane Laflin.
Good & Welfare:  Walt Umberfield is convalescing at Woodlake Conv. Home in Tolland.  He has had hip surgery.
New Business: We have booked Dan Garrett for a lecture in May.  Cal Vinick has talked with the Jewish Community Center about a public show.  Talks continue.  We received Marlene Clark’s candidacy notice for RVP.  The club voted to endorse her.
Adjourned: 7:52 PM.
Aftermeeting: Ropes and strings.
Dan and Dana presented their takes on Professor’s Nightmare.  Dana’s twist was a macabre patter dealing with ancient Greece.  Dan’s was to drop the pieces into a change bag--it comes out tied together, but the knots pop off!  Dan also demo’d the Kellar Rope Tie that was in the February M-U-M, and showed us some ring-on-rope routines.

Stepping in for Dave was the man of many voices and talents--Bob Carroll.  He was very entertaining and very informative.  Some of the topics he covered were:

  • The different letters and how they can be substituted.
  • The alphabet and possible run through.
  • Types of voices and examples of them for "venting".
  • Types of puppets. Types of workings.
  • Maybe even his thoughts on Muppets or Marionettes.

I won a raffle prize, an Axtell video, and got a real good deal on an Axtell Magic Drawing Board from Bob.
Also in attendance were President elect Rich Dooley and his two kids, along with RVP Tom Gentile and Dr. Ungar.
A great time was had by all!

On the road again Monday January 31, I hooked up with our VP Ron Strong.  We were supposed
