June Meeting:
Last Days of Spring

Summer is coming, but right now it’s still Spring. Bring spring-related magic to the restaurant this coming Monday.  Those wishing to join us for dinner are encouraged to do so, starting at 6:00 PM.  The meeting starts at 7:30 PM on June 13th.

Minutes of May Meeting

9 May 2005  7:23 PM
Sec’y’s report: accepted as printed.
Treas’ report: balance reported.
Old Business: We were contacted by Marlene Clark to have all the CT assemblies combine funds to purchase one full-page ad in the Boston Convention program.  Passed with no objection.
We had a second reading for Angelo Chirico.  After a quick performance of signed card in envelope, he was instantly voted into the group.
New Business: We had been asked about the possibility of changing our meeting date in order to accommodate the owner of our new meeting place, but said individual has withdrawn his request.
G&W: The word on Jay Marshall is that he cannot leave the hospital yet, but he is making great improvement. [Not enough, see next article.]
Roy Horn actually walked recently.

Adjourned: 7:30 PM

Aftermeeting: A lecture by PNP Dan Garrett.

These are just some of the effects taught to us by Dan:

  • Cosmic Egg--a sanada sponge ball routine
  • Torn and Quartered--dollar bill to mismade bill to taped bill
Jay Marshall Passes at 85

Our Society’s Dean since 1992 passed away May 10, 2005 in Chicago, peacefully, with his cat, Ali Bongo, curled up on his lap.  Jay was a member of our Society for 54 years.  To say that he will be sorely missed is an understatement.

Jay at the Centennial Convention.

  • Sign of The Times--spectator "signs" your business card
  • Torn and Reborn--torn card is restored in envelope and laminated

After a brief intermission, Dan returned and performed "By Request" in which Dan went into detail on anything we wanted to know.  Topics were: one-handed swivel change, techniques for getting large(r) objects (compressible) into a TT, a mouse thumb puppet, and a triple prediction with colored markers called "EPIC Marked Down."  Dan passed out a booklet on this effect to all assembled.

An Excerpt

From a report by National Deputy for Deaf Magicians Simon J. Carmel to Secretary Joan Lehr:
The U.S. Deaf Magicians Society hosted its 7th biennial festival at the 2005 DeafNation Expo in Hartford, Connecticut where over 2,600 deaf and hearing people and children attended on Saturday, May 14, 2005.  The national magic contests were held for deaf magicians from the U.S. and Canada to participate in.  The audience members were deeply captivated by their different magic tricks shown on stage.  Especially, many thanks to both Ron Strong and Dana Ring from the SAM Assembly #21 Club who acted as two hearing judges, and another deaf judge from the American School for the Deaf.
