August Meeting:
Kid Magic

The heat wave continues.  Beat the high temperatures at the home of our president, Dan Sclare this month with another backyard summer picnic.  Bring your bathing suits.  Please bring a salad or a dessert.  Dan asks that you RSVP by that Monday morning if you?re coming.  The theme is Kid Magic; bring the effect that you?ve found is a favorite with the kids, or just the effect that make you feel like a kid again.  The festivities start at 6:00 PM on August 8th.

Minutes of July Meeting

11 July 2005  8:11 PM

Sec?y?s report: accepted as printed.

Treas? report: balance reported.

President?s report:  The five present who attended the convention in Boston reported that it was very good.  There was no "down time;" there was always something to do.
During the National Council meeting, our secretary was informed by John Engman of the SAM Hall of Fame that John had researched old SAM minutes and found that our assembly was granted its charter on October 4, 1930, by the National Council in special session.
MI Dan Sclare showed the "Connecticut Assemblies" ad that appeared in the Convention Book congratulating Rich Dooley.

G&W: Robert Killian, Jr.?s father passed away in June.  Dan Sclare, Walt Umberfield and Bill Smyth attended the wake.

Adjourned: 8:47 PM

Aftermeeting: "Something old, something new..."

John Marenholtz says he brought himself for "old."
Dan Sclare showed us something new that he got at the convention--"Body Language."  Four black balls and one gold one in a bag.  Five people grab one unseen.  All claim to have gold.  Dan eliminated the ones who gave away the fact that they had a black ball--through their body language!  He also showed us some old copies of Conjurer?s Magazine from 1945 and 1946.
Walt Umberfield showed us an old deck he had altered to do a "rising card" trick.
Ron Strong borrowed a trick from his daughter and did the 21-card trick.
Dana Ring did something old using something new.  He poured water into a goblet, covered it with a Styrofoam plate, inverted it all and, ... Well, those of you who have followed Dana?s track record with the Water Suspension know how this usually turns out, but this time ... it worked!  Ha!

London Calling

Word comes to us from Jann Goodsell via SAMTalk that no one attending the Magic Circle Centenary Celebrations in London two weeks ago was injured by the tube/bus terrorist bombings.

Dave Oliver shares his thoughts in one of the convention?s SYM Leader sessions.
