October Meeting: Plan-A-Dinner and Impromptu

The call goes out to any remaining compeers that wish to participate in the club’s Dinner-and-Magic shows.  On November 11, we will have a kids’ show 12-3pm and an adults’ show 6-10+pm (end times approx.) complete with buffet dinner and pre-show walkaround.  So far the lineup includes 11 members and guests.  If you would like to be added to the program, come to the meeting [October 9] and show us what ’cha got.  Also, please be prepared to do an “impromptu” trick.  The meeting starts at 7:30PM.  Join us for dinner, if you can, at 6:00 PM.  See you there!
[Late addition:  Performers:  Perform your signature sleight at the October meeting and Angelo will record it, turn it into a video clip and post it on the restaurant's website.]

Minutes of September Meeting

11 September 2006  7:38 PM

Pres. rpt: Dan Sclare introduced our guests, which included the secretary of #147 in Maine.
Dan then made a special presentation of 50-year membership certificates to Gennaro Viglione and Walt Umberfield. Walt was also given a “ladder” listing his accomplishments.
Sec. rpt: Accepted as published.
Tres. rpt: balance reported.
Dan requested that anyone receiving our newsletter in hard copy, that has access to the Internet, to receive the newsletter off the ’Net to save us some postage.

When Last We Met

Walt Umberfield and Gerry Viglione with their 50-year membership plaques.

Dan would like to start our own lending library of tapes and DVDs to be available to our members, and that anyone who has materials to share please donate said materials to the club.
Len Lazar suggested we share a lecture with the local IBM; Walt added that the IBM group has had trouble recently finding lecturers.
Len posited that each month’s meeting have a “theme” and that a member be assigned to “host” each meeting.  Len and Angelo Chirico volunteered to set the themes for the year.
G&W: Tony Clarke’s Power Lecture in Mystic on 9/13. Richard Sander lecture on 10/10, Wallingford.  David Ginn in Worcester on 10/5.
Angelo’s dinner-and-magic show on 11/11.  The group discussed various possibilities and a subgroup agreed to meet on the 13th to further plan the show.
Adjoured: 8:38 PM

Aftermeeting — General magic
Kevin Aust, Jan Paris and Bob Nixon showed off some sleights using coins and ropes.  We also watched a couple of DVDs including Neil Patrick Harris’ weird routine that went out on DVD with the latest issue of Genii, and Alan Alan demonstrating a “dual control” gimmick.  [Ed. note: I think Losander was showing that at the Louisville convention.]
