Meetings:

Second Monday of every month except December
at Angelo's on Main in West Hartford
(I-84 exit 41)
November Meeting:
Kids' Show Magic

This month, it is asked that everyone bring a trick or routine or story that you use, or would consider using, in a show for kids.  Other discussion points could include: handling kid hecklers, preventing stage rushing, and keeping the adults entertained at the same time.  As usual, we meet at Angelo’s on Main in West Hartford, with the meeting starting at 7:30 PM on November 13.  Those wishing to join the officers for dinner, please do so at 6:00 PM.  Remember that we do not meet in December, so this will be the last meeting of 2006.  Let’s make it a good one and show up in force!

Minutes of October Meeting

9 October 2006  7:30 PM

Sec’y’s report: accepted as printed.

Treas’ report: balance reported.

The group discussed having the current newsletter in a public page on the website, in order to let possible visitors know what goes on at our meetings and how much fun they are.  Webmaster Dana Ring agreed to put the next newsletter on a publicly-available page, minus any treasurer’s information.  President Dan Sclare led the group in revisiting the idea of having a tape and DVD library for the club.  Len Lazar expressed concern that meetings would devolve into only watching DVDs, and would lose membership interest.  Dan assured all that the materials would be lending-material only.  There followed a discussion on videotapes and DVDs in general.

When Last We Met

Angelo Chirico tapes Dan Sclare for inclusion on his web page promoting the upcoming dinner/magic show.

Dan announced the upcoming National Magic Week dates. Connecticut has issued a proclamation.

G&W:  David Ginn is in the area. [Oct. 15, in Worcester].  Richard Sanders lectures tomorrow. Jonathan Pendragon is recuperating.
Dan asked that the on-line discussion group, SAMtalk, be “advertised” in the next newsletter. Dan also shared news that “Fabric Place” in Cromwell is going out of business [to be complete by first week of December, I think —ed.] and tremendous bargains can be had.
Walt showed us a six-sided die made from playing cards.
The ’08 IBM/SAM convention is still $295 thru Dec.

Report of the Magic Show committee:  Angelo Chirico announced the format of the shows (pre-show walkaround, dinner, stage show), and listed the performers.  He solicited tech help from the members and got it. [See performer list, pg. 3]

Adjourned: 8:35 PM
