September Meeting:
“ICE” McDonald Lecture

International award-winning magician Kenrick “ICE” McDonald will be lecturing at our September meeting.  You do NOT want to miss this one.  Free to paid-up members, all others will be squeezed for $15.  This lecture will give you valuable advice that will improve your magic.  The meeting is September 10 and starts at 7:30 PM.  Join the officers for dinner, if you can, at 6:00 PM.

Tres. rpt.: balance was reported.
Pres. rpt: Angelo Chirico confirmed 17th of November as the date of the Fall Spectacular Magic Show at the restaurant.  He reminded us that VP Dan Sclare wants the club to do something with the Veterans’ Project.
N. B.: Next month’s lecture of “Ice” McDonald is confirmed.
The minutes of the July National Council meeting were passed around.
G&W: The Hartford Courant ran a nice story on Mel Bigley as part of their “Extraordinary Lives” series.
We formally welcomed Norm St. Laurent into our ranks and presented him with his badges of membership.
We noted the Broken Wand notice in M-U-M for Tom Prete.

Starting by saying, “most of the stuff I do is impromptu,” Jim caused coins to appear under a card, then borrowed Soll Levine’s watch and altered its time (without magnets!).  He then had Soll choose a   —>

<— card, which later appeared, folded, behind his watch.  Other miracles taught this night were: The Impromptu Princess Card trick, a version of Oil & Water, penetrating a $20 bill, and “Stealing Away”—grabbing water glasses off a restaurant table and producing them, the use of an elastic up the sleeve which can be used to ditch up to six coins or switch bills, and “parallel sleeving”—a natural addition to the French Drop that is really convincing.  Jim also demonstrated several products that he had created including a wallet from which you can produce a burning card, the Phoenix Fire Gimmick (the real trick that was ripped off as “Inferno”), and The Spinning Thing—the hummingbird card with lights!


SAM#23 Annual Banquet

New London Assembly #23 will hold their annual banquet on Sunday, November 4, 2007, at 4 PM, at Ocean Beach Park in New London.  There will be a buffet, cash bar, and great entertainment.  Cost is $31 per person.  Contact Jim Spinnato before October 14 at 860-447-1107 or james.spinnato@snet.net.
