MASKLYN’S LAW OF MAGICK:

For every miracle, there’s an equal and opposite criticism.
November Meeting:
Tag Sale

Clean out your closets and check your cabinets, and maybe you can cadge some cash.  How well can you do the unused-prop-into-money trick?  The club will benefit by getting 10% of all sales.  The meeting is November 12 and starts at 7:30 PM.  Join the officers for dinner, please, at 6:00 PM.

Minutes of October Meeting

8 October 2007   7:48 PM

Sec’y’s report: accepted as printed.
Tres. rpt.: balance was reported.
O. B.: VP Dan Sclare had no new information on the “Veterans” show, but he’s still working on it.
Info on proclamations for Magic Week was passed around.
Michael Michaels and Charlie Hayden are willing to perform at the Fall Spectacular if they are available on the new date [see below].
N. B.: The Connecticut Historical Society bought the entire stock of auctioned magical items and will have “Richard Potter” perform on October 20.
A letter from M.I. Maria Ibâńez concerning the National Council meeting (Nov 2-4) was read.
Dan looked through the ICONN.org database of Hartford Courant archives.  He searched for articles on magicians and passed around his findings, which included a packing-crate challenge issued by a Hartford company.
Dan arranged the purchase of another set of DVD’s from the International Magicians Society.
“The Late Show with David Letterman” has scheduled a comedy magician on October 12.
President Angelo Chirico announced that the Fall Show had to be rescheduled.  David Oliver could not do the 17th date, but could do the following week.  Dave Garrity can also do the 24th.     →

←   We all acknowledged the problem caused by the date change, but Angelo was confident that the show will be successful.  [He was right; see following article.]
Dave Garrity is at Fright Fest; discount vouchers are available if you notify him in advance.
Adjourned: 8:40 PM

Aftermeeting: Magic using household items.

Norm St. Laurent took out a box of Tic-Tacs, removed one, and turned the box into a lighter.  Then lit the Tic-Tac, which turned into a quarter.
Dan Sclare had Angelo select a card (cards are a household item to Dan).  Angelo had to “transmit” his card to us.  Having trouble, Dan had him use an egg beater as an antenna.
Kevin Aust did an impromptu zombie effect with a knife and fork, then attempted to swallow the knife.  He then vanished some sugar from his hand.
Angelo took some rubber bands, one broken, and borrowed a ring.  He got the ring to defy gravity, travelling up the rubber band.
Dana Ring “magnetized” his finger, enabling him to lift a salt shaker by its top.
John Marenholtz showed a length of string.  It grew two extra “ends.”
Walt Umberfield took out a deck, showed two cards and one of them chosen.  That one was ripped into four pieces and put back into the deck.  With a thump!, the card was restored.
To finish, Norm had Walt put a saucer atop a cup, then vanished a quantity of salt, which reappeared in the cup under the saucer.
