February Meeting:
Improving Your Sleights

Bring your crazy flippin’ fingers to the February meeting where we will have a workshop in all manner of sleights.  Show someone how to do a biddle grip.  Learn from someone else how to improve your finger palm.  Join us February 11 and share the knowledge.  The meeting starts at 7:30 PM, preceded by dinner at 6:00 PM.

Minutes of Jan. Meeting

14 January 2008  7:34 PM

Sec’y’s report: accepted as published.

Treas’ report: Our balance was reported.

Old Bus.: There were two magic shows at the restaurant in November. The Mystery Lounge guys did a fantastic job on sold-out Saturday.  The following “21” show on Sunday was nearly sold out as well.  A New Year’s Eve show went great thanks to several members of the assembly.  Pres. Angelo Chirico turned over to treasurer Walt Umberfield a total of $700 for the three shows. Angelo expressed his pride in the organization.  The reputation of the restaurant has grown and interest in the shows has been truly wonderful.  VP Dan Sclare expressed thanks, also, to the “tech crew” who helped out, and offers “positions” to anyone willing to help out in any capacity at a future show.  Angelo plans to contact the Veterans’ Home this week regarding a show for them.

New Bus.: Fielding West will be in Wallingford on the 24th, and Springfield on the 25th.
NEMCON is March 8.  Dave Garrity and Charlie Hayden will be performing.

The New London assembly is having an auction this month.
Rob Cox and Mandy Davis will be in the area late-March-to-early-April.
Secretary Dana Ring read Phil Milstead’s announcement that he is running for National 2nd VP.
John Luca is at the Collonade in Glastonbury on February 6.  It starts at 6:30 and is $20 (includes dinner).
We had a first reading for prospective members Chris White and Kenny Omar. March’s meeting will be “Historical Night” hosted by Bill Smyth.

G&W: One of our members found an interesting tidbit of weird information: Larry Fine of The Three Stooges was once married to Houdini’s cousin.

Adjourned: 8:15 PM

Tonight’s theme was “Who Wants To Be A Magical Genius?” Using the CD he bought at the Dallas convention, Dana acted as host for three games of magic trivia, with questions ranging from Houdini’s dog to David Copperfield’s duck.  National President-Elect Bruce Kalver hosted the game at the convention and made copies available afterward for assemblies.  Bob Teralia was the night’s high scorer, winning a prize donated by the Studio of Magic in Rocky Hill.
