Minutes of May Meeting

12 May 2008  7:32 PM

Sec’y’s report: accepted as published.

Treas’ report: Our balance was reported.

Old Bus.: There was a final call for volunteer performers for a June 1 benefit for an event connected with the CT Children’s Medical Center.

New Bus.: The results are in!  The May show at the restaurant was great.  New stage looked wonderful.  Pres. Angelo Chirico praised the performers.  Pictures of the show were passed around.  The walk-around was equally well-received.  The new staging makes the seating much more comfortable.  Angelo moved that the club award $50 to his staff member Louise in appreciation for the sewing she did for the curtains.  Dave Edwards moved to amend the award to $100.  The amendment and the motion both passed.   Angelo then presented the proceeds of the show along with an expense breakdown: $50 for food for the performers, somewhere around $63.61 in additional hardware for the construction of the stage, $339.75 for a flame-proof cloth.  The total profit was (ta-dah) $65.  For the next show, the cost of the stage will be zero.  VP Dan Sclare’s school donated a sound system to the club.  The Fall show will be somewhere around the 2nd or 3rd week of November.

We presented the membership package to new member Chris White.
The club received Len Lazar’s new Massachusetts address.

G&W: Dave Garrity presented a special personalized wand to Angelo. We re-elected the officers to another term.  [According to the record, Dave has completed his second 3-year term and will be replaced at the next meeting.]

Adjourned: 8:09 PM

Tonight’s theme was Mentalism.
These members proved they weren’t in their right minds:
Norm St. Laurent predicted which color coin (of two) would land which side up when tossed.  He later labeled 11 quarters with a marker and predicted which one would be left after some eliminations.
Angelo did a packet trick: “Select The Red Card.”
Rick St. Pierre had someone select one of three paperbacks.  He then folded a piece of paper and placed it in a coin envelope, which someone else signed.  A page was selected and some words noted.  The packet was opened; inside was the actual page ripped from the book.  Rick also did another trick by request: Had a deck shuffled and 8 cards dealt.  With one selected, the others were re-assembled.  The chosen card was then found.
Cal Vinick predicted a number arrived at after some mental calculations.
Dave Edwards had someone select a date (M/D).  He then showed a datebook with a card for each date.  Dave then showed a giant card that matched the chosen date’s card.
Soll Levine had one of two books chosen.  A page was chosen at random.  Soll correctly guessed the first word on that page.
Chris White had a volunteer put a coin into his choice of left or right hand and concentrate on it.  Chris was able to intuit which hand the coin was in.
Dana Ring showed a Magician’s Force, with cards one could make to use in trade-show work.
