August Meeting:
Anything Goes

Summertime, and the living is easy.  So easy, in fact, that we’re not going to limit the meeting with a theme, so anything is appropriate this month.  Now’s your chance to bring in that effect that doesn’t fit any other category!  Not quite close-up, not quite stage?  No matter, we want to see it!  This free-for-all is August 11.  Join us at 7:30 PM, preceded by dinner at 6:00 PM.

Minutes of July Meeting

14 July 2008  7:30 PM

President Angelo Chirico, VP Dan Sclare, and Treasurer Walt Umberfield were unable to attend tonight, so we had an informal get-together and showed off magic with a food-related theme.  Secretary Dana Ring showed photos he took at the SYM convention in Rhode Island on July 4-6 [some are on the next page].
Norm St. Laurent demonstrated a flying french fry that levitated out of the bag and ended in Norm’s mouth.  He also borrowed a bill, crumpled it up, and covered it with a coffee cup.  He then took it out, vanished it, to have it reappear under the cup.  He repeated this twice ending with a plum and a kiwi under the cup.
Soll Levine put some flour, an egg, and water into a pan, covered it, and produced an Entemann’s coffee cake.
Chris White borrowed a cloth napkin and produced a bottle of beer.

Lectures In The Area

Two lectures by two assemblies coming up.  Assembly 127 presents Rick Maue on October 7, at 7PM at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Wallingford.  Rick's current lecture contains items from just about all of his releases.  Routines range from mentalism, to standard magical effects, to haunted items.  In addition, a number of utility moves and techniques are demonstrated.  Each point is illustrated with effects that are technically very easy to do, and they do not require special gimmicks or equipment.  Cost for non-127-members is $15.

Assembly 63 presents an evening with Russ Douton, on August 25 at 7PM at Don Beebe’s Barn in Norwich.  His lecture will be on close-up restaurant magic.  Cost for non-members of NLMC is a mere $5.  Questions?  Call Jim Spinnato 860.447.1107 or see www.magicsam63.com.
