Meetings:

Second Monday of every month except December at Angelo's on Main in West Hartford
(I-84 exit 41)
March Meeting:
Shakespeare!

As we are near the ides of March, the theme this month is “Shakespeare.”  Hie thee to Angelo’s for much merriment and fellowship. Bring ye forth such magick that sweetly recommends itself unto our gentle senses.  “When shall we [all] meet again?”  On March 9, there to meet with—the compeers! The meeting starts at 7:30 PM, preceded by dinner at 6:00 PM.

Minutes of February Meeting

9 February 2009  7:40 PM

Sec. rpt.:  Accepted as published.

Treas. rpt.:  Our balance was reported.

Old Bus.:  The date of the Assembly Banquet is set, March 28.  Tickets are now available, to be sold only at our meetings.  The price is $25 for a pasta entrée, $30 for a Chicken, Sirloin, or Salmon plate.  Cash or checks only, no credit cards.  There will be a cocktail hour from 6:30-7:30, with dinner from 7:30-9:00, and a full stage show at 9:00.  Entertainment provided by Chris Mansfield.
A lecture by Tim Sonefeldt is planned for May 4.  If we can confirm that date with him, we will move our May meeting date to that day.

New Bus.:  Jim Sisti has a new book out on Restaurant Magic.

Good & Wel.:  We have a prospective new member tonight (guest John Cianfarani).
We are starting to look toward a Spring Show, but would like to see “new blood” taking part.  Possibilities include hiring outside talent or including non-”magic” acts for variety.

←   We held a second reading for Ray Lorenzo.  For his demonstration, Ray placed a sticker on a coin for identification and held the coin in hand.  President Angelo Chirico rubbed the coin, which was then shown to be bent.  Ray also did a trick involving seven bills, some face up, some down which mysteriously ended up facing the same direction.  Ray stepped outside briefly while we voted him in.

Adjourned at 8:12 PM.

Tonight’s theme was “Hearts and Flowers.”
Cal Vinick took three cards in his hand, showing the Three of Hearts in the middle.  When dealt to the table, the middle card had transformed into the “Tree of Hearts.”
Walt Umberfield showed a packet of giant cards along with his normal-sized-card prediction.  One of the giant cards was selected and proved to match his prediction.
Rick St. Pierre played a game with four cards: three blanks and the Queen of Hearts.  With half face up and half face down, Queen proved elusive.  In fact, the Queen had disappeared and was back in the face-down deck, face-up.
Angelo did a version of matrix with four quarters and two cards.
Dan Sclare had Theresa choose a card which turned out to be the only card with a rose on its back.  A rose appeared when the deck was spread.  He then taught us all how to twist a paper napkin into the shape of a rose.
The climax to Dan's trick. A rose is in the cards
