September Meeting:
“How I Spent My Summer Vacation”—magic you saw and/or learned

The time of returning is upon us.  The temperatures return to reasonable numbers.  Children return to school.  Workers return to offices, shops, or sites.  And magi return to the best club in the Nutmeg State.  It’s time to show off what you were up to while the livin’ was easy.  Join us September 14 for an evening of sharing starting at 7:30 PM, preceded by dinner at 6:00 PM.

Minutes of August Meeting

10 August 2009  7:35 PM

Pres. Angelo Chirico and VP Dan Sclare were both absent, so Sec. Dana Ring presided.  Somehow the club survived.
The theme for August was "packet tricks."  Any trick that used a small set of real or fake cards was fair game.
Norm St. Laurent offered to bet Soll Levine $1 if he could find Soll's card.  After Soll named a card, Norm produced a joke card with all denominations and suits on it, but in a flash the card turned into a $1 bill.  With the bill out, Norm transformed it into a $5 bill and back again.
Bob Killian took a few cards and had Teddy Radu select a card.  After mixing the cards, Bob had Cal Vinick call out a number.  Bob counted out the cards and found Teddy's card at Cal's number.
Dana Ring did "Color Monte" saying, well, somebody had to.

←   Teddy demonstrated his two-card transposition, in which a card held in a spectator's hand instantly switches places with one in Teddy's.
Dana came back to do "Eight Ball" and "Six-Mix."
The group then discussed in detail the sleights needed for most packet tricks, including the Elmsley, Flustration, and Hamman Counts.

Planning Out The Year

Before the meeting, the Board will, during dinner, plan out the meetings for the coming year.  If you have any ideas for meeting themes, who would be a good lecturer, or other creative contributions, join us at that time and voice your opinion.  If you can’t make it to that meeting, but there’s a topic you’re just dying to see us take up, get word to any of the Board members.  Their names are on page three.
