October Meeting:
“My Favorite Magic”

Fall is some people’s favorite season, with its colorful foliage.  Some prefer Summer with its long days and warm evenings.  Others like Spring for its flowers.  Still others prefer Winter, but I’m willing to bet they don’t own a snow shovel.  Soll Levine will be the host of this month’s meeting and asks that everyone bring their favorite magic.  Share with us on October 12 at 7:30 PM.  Join the officers for dinner at 6:00 PM.

Minutes of September Meeting

14 September 2009 7:34 PM

VP Dan Sclare called the meeting to order.
The Secretary’s report was accepted as published.
The Treasurer reported our balance for the start of the year.
Old Bus.: none this month.
New Bus.: Dan asked us to set up a schedule for the new year.  He suggested a magic auction/tag sale Oct. or Nov.  It was agreed to hold such an auction in November with auctioneer duties being performed by Bob Killian or Rick St. Pierre, depending upon availability.  Soll Levine will host the October meeting and will choose its theme.  Dan, inspired by a recent thread on SAMTalk, volunteered to host a Tarbell-Course-themed meeting in January or February.
The club also discussed possible future lecturers, including those sponsored by the SAM Endowment Fund, and several other names including Kyle Peron, Shawn Anthony, Alan Drew, and Tim Gabrielson.  Other ideas are welcome.
G&W: We noted that SAMCON is scheduled for Nov. 14, the same weekend as the Inner Circle of Bizarre Magick's annual Gathering.

←   Michael Ammar is in Norwich on November 16.  $20 per person.

Adjourned 8:15 PM

We then talked about our magical doings over the summer.  Dan had gotten a great price on a trip to Disney World and got his picture taken with the Sorcerer's Apprentice (Mickey).  He also told us about chancing upon a spontaneous performance by a great street magician.  Unfortunately, Dan was never able to catch his name.
Walt Umberfield showed us a dollar bill that he changed into a book of matches that contains a picture of a forced card.  He also showed us another dollar bill that is apparently penetrated by a folded card.  Walt showed us how he made it and explained that the prop came about by Walt's tooling around with the components over the past two months.
Finally, Soll brought out some items he had purchased over the summer: some metal tubes and wooden mallets.  Using these, he turned over half-a-dozen compeers into a human xylophone.

Auction In November

November’s meeting is a magic auction.  Look through your desk drawers and rummage through your closets for those items you thought you’d use but didn’t, so someone else can put them into a new routine.
